报告摘要:Animation is a fascinating form of art with long history, which creates visual pieces and stories beyond our real world and inspires generations. The merge with computing technology gave it a new life and created a disciplinary branch of computer animation. The National Centre of Computer Animation at Bournemouth University has pioneered in the establishment of the discipline of computer animation, fusing technical developments in computer science with underlying artistic principles and practice. The computer animation industry has been booming and prospering in recent thirty years, where the landscapes have been reshaped with the evolution of new technologies. Nowadays, we see the emerging of new applications which using animation in virtual reality and augmented reality for new immersive experience, which has many implementations in different areas, ranging from entertaining, education, manufacturing to health care. It is a time to rethink where the next generation technology for digital creation and modelling will take us to and what is the boundary and limitations for existing technologies. To answer these questions, we will look back to understand how the technology has been evolving and driving the growth of the computer animation industry.

报告人简介:Jian Chang is a Professor in computer animation in a world leading centre, the National Centre for Computer Animation, recognised as the best the UK educational and research base for computer animation. His research has focused on physics-based modelling (deformation and fluid), motion synthesis, virtual reality (surgery simulation), and novel HCI (eye tracking, gesture control and haptic). He is keen to exploit the usage of novel computer animation techniques for cross-disciplinary research and applications, which has led to international research collaboration. His research has been funded by various funding sources, including the Royal Society, EU FP7, InterReg France (Channel) England, HEIF and industrial partners.
